New Course, New Expectations
Journalism is an innovative and exciting course. This is the first year a course like this is being offered and I am sure that you are wondering what is going to be expected of you. Traditionally, journalism has been a course based on print media and therefore has been a writing course. Although there is a strong writing component to this course, you will be developing a wide-variety of abilities, including skills in researching, interviewing, presenting, video editing, etc. If I had to choose two characteristics that I thought would most benefit a student in journalism they would be professionalism and creativity.
Speak Up and Be Heard
I have and am continuously working on ensuring that this course is an enriching learning experience. If you have any suggestions for assignments, field trips, or special guests please feel free to share them. You can get in touch with me through my contact page

Thinking Beyond the Newspaper
Today, journalism is not limited to newspapers as it was only a century ago. Contemporary journalism spans a variety of media forms including television, radio, and the internet. Throughout the course we will explore and create different media texts. The use of various mediums will help us gain a deeper understanding of journalism and encourage creativity. By the end of the course we will have a better understanding of what Marshall McLuhan meant when he said, "The medium is the message."
